Abstract

Economic growth serves as a fundamental indicator of regional development. The City of Palopo possesses strong economic potential, particularly in two leading sectors: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and tourism. This study aims to analyze the influence of these sectors on Palopo’s economic growth during the period 2014–2023. A quantitative approach was employed using time series data sourced from official government institutions. Multiple linear regression was applied as the primary analytical method, supported by classical assumption tests to ensure the model’s validity. The results indicate that both MSMEs and tourism significantly and positively affect economic growth in Palopo. The regression analysis shows that MSMEs contribute more prominently, with a coefficient of 19.175 and a significance level of 0.000. Meanwhile, tourism also has a positive effect, with a coefficient of 3.858 and a significance level of 0.040. The model's Adjusted R² value of 0.920 suggests that 92% of the variance in economic growth can be explained by the two independent variables. These findings highlight the strategic importance of MSME development as the backbone of local economic progress. Additionally, tourism plays a catalytic role when developed in a sustainable manner. The synergy between MSMEs and tourism should be optimized to create an inclusive and resilient economic ecosystem in the region.
