Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Transportation Agency in improving road transportation safety and its impact on the economy in North Luwu Regency. Transportation safety is an important factor in supporting community mobility, efficient distribution of goods, and regional economic growth. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results of the study indicate that the Transportation Agency has a strategic role in supervision, regulation, and education related to traffic safety. Several programs that have been implemented include motor vehicle testing, installation of traffic signs, provision of free school buses, safety campaigns, and development of supporting infrastructure. However, the implementation of these programs faces various obstacles such as budget constraints, low public awareness, and inadequate road conditions. The impact of improving transportation safety includes efficiency of transportation costs, reduction of social costs due to accidents, and increased community productivity. This study recommends the need for cross-sector collaboration, increased budget, strengthening of human resource capacity, and the use of modern surveillance technology to create a safer and more sustainable transportation system.
