Abstract
This study aims to test the moderating variable of managerial ownership on the relationship between financial distress and leverage on earnings management. The population of this study is the financial statements of basic material sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2021-2023. This study uses secondary data in the form of annual financial statements of basic material sector companies with a purposive sampling technique for sample selection. A total of 64 out of 96 companies as research objects. The analysis method used is multiple regression to test the moderating variable of managerial ownership on the relationship between financial distress and leverage on earnings management. Based on the results of statistical tests, it shows that financial distress has no effect on earnings management, while leverage has an effect on earnings management. Furthermore, financial distress moderated by managerial ownership has no effect on earnings management, and leverage moderated by managerial ownership has an effect on earnings management.
